About Botanix

Botanix is a Layer-2 Bitcoin network which integrates Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM) capabilities through its revolutionary Spiderchain architecture. It enables DeFi activity such as staking, lending, trading and direct Bitcoin deposits/payments while maintaining the cryptocurrency's renowned security. The network is set up for unlocking the utility of Bitcoin beyond its use as a store-of-value, with an eventual target for it becoming a base layer for DeFi, smart contracts as well as Web3 applications.

What makes Botanix special?

  • Spiderchain Architecture: Botanix's security framework is based on a decentralized coordination layer consisting of multi-signature wallets governed by randomly chosen nodes. This allows Bitcoin stakes to be safely secured, and the network remains trustless such that full staking is possible in a completely decentralized manner without any requirement for custodians or wrapped tokens.
  • EVM Compatibility: By enabling support for Ethereum tooling as well as smart contract languages such as Solidity, Botanix enables developers to design dApps on Bitcoin using tools with which they are already familiar, connecting Bitcoin's security with Ethereum's developer experience.
  • Native Bitcoin DeFi: Botanix brings Ethereum-equivalent utility to Bitcoin, allowing users to engage in DeFi activities natively on Bitcoin without relying on wrapped assets or external blockchains. This includes staking, lending, borrowing, trading, and more.
  • Fast and Low-Cost Transactions: With block times reduced to 5 seconds and an average transaction fee of $0.02 enable Botanix significantly to increase transaction throughput and affordability on Bitcoin.
  • Decentralized Governance: Botanix's mainnet is governed by a 16-node operator federation, which is set to increase above 100 nodes in 2026. Decentralized governance in such a way guarantees operations aren't owned or operated by a single entity.

Botanix Staking FAQ

What is Botanix Staking?

Botanix is the first EVM-equivalent Layer-2 built on Bitcoin. Today, you can earn BTC rewards through Bitcoin Yield, a liquid-staking protocol that distributes 50 % of all gas fees to stakers. In the near future, Botanix will launch native Proof-of-Stake staking, where users lock actual BTC to secure the network and earn consensus rewards.

What is the Botanix token?

  1. BTC – the native gas token used for every transaction and, in the future, for validators to stake and secure the network.
  2. stBTC – the liquid-staking, non-rebasing wrapped token (ERC-20 standard), it represents your deposited BTC, keeps a fixed balance, and quietly grows in BTC value as network fees accumulate.

Why Stake BTC on Botanix?

  • Native BTC rewards – no exposure to other tokens
  • Liquidity – stBTC can be used in DeFi while earning yield
  • Composability – ERC-4626 standard; plugs into wallets, DEXs, lending markets
  • Security – smart contracts, audited by top firms
  • Future-proof – today’s stakers will migrate seamlessly to native PoS when it ships

Which wallets can I use with Bitcoin Yield?

You can connect any of the wallets below:

  • Browser Extensions: MetaMask, Rabby, OKX Wallet
  • Mobile Wallets: WalletConnect

Make sure the wallet is set up and backed up with a strong password and recovery phrase.

How do I get stBTC?

  1. Bridge – move BTC from Bitcoin main-chain to Botanix L2 at bridge.botanixlabs.com.
  2. Yield – on Botanix L2, open yield.botanixlabs.com, connect your wallet, deposit BTC, and receive stBTC. (Bridging and depositing each cost a small BTC gas fee on their respective networks.)

How does staking work, step by step?

  1. Send BTC to the Bitcoin Yield smart contract.
  2. Get stBTC tokens at a 1:1 rate.
  3. Your stake quietly earns yield - no extra steps are needed.
  4. Cash out anytime by swapping stBTC back for more BTC than you started with (your original BTC + its share of the tips).

What is the minimum stake required in Botanix?

You can stake any amount of BTC.

How long before rewards start?

Rewards begin as soon as your deposit is confirmed (~10 seconds).

Are rewards auto-compounded?

Yes. The stBTC/BTC exchange rate rises continuously, no manual re-staking required.

How do I access my rewards?

Redeem stBTC for BTC at the current rate, rewards are instantly realized upon withdrawal.

How do I withdraw my Bitcoin?

  1. Open yield.botanixlabs.com
  2. On the Request tab – tell the protocol how much stBTC you want to cash in.
  3. On the Claim tab – enter how much you want to claim and sign the transaction with your wallets. The BTC (initial deposit + yield) lands in your wallet.

Each step needs two block confirmations (≈ 20 seconds total). Both the request and claim steps require small amounts of BTC for gas fees. Later, when native staking + slashing go live, longer unbonding periods may apply.

Is it safe?

Audited code – Spearbit and Sigma Prime have reviewed the Bitcoin Yield contracts and published their findings in the official docs.

Non-custodial design – the contracts hold your BTC under transparent rules, only a cryptographic signature from your wallet can trigger withdrawals.

Can I use stBTC while it’s earning?

Absolutely. Trade it, supply it to lending pools, or LP on DEXs - all while it keeps accruing yield.

Will I need to migrate when native staking arrives?

No action required. The team will provide a one-click upgrade path from stBTC to locked staking positions.
